 Resetting (partially) your Chirp database
Solution

From time to time, Plum Canary technical support may request that you reset your local database. The following provides you with the instructions on how to do this. Note that, while it is generally harmless to do this, Plum Canary does not advise that you follow these steps unless you are asked to do so by Plum Canary technical support.

There are two types of reset: Full, and partial. (The steps for a full reset are described in this article: http://tinyurl.com/ao6he.) A partial-reset method has three advantages over a full reset:

  • It preserves your license key, so you do not have to re-obtain and re-enter it;
  • It preserves all your Views;
  • All changes to your Preferences are retained.

The short list of steps for a partial reset are:

  • Make sure a fresh sync has completed
  • Tell Chirp to perform a reset/re-sync
  • Sync twice

1. Sync Chirp

Open Chirp, and click the “sync” button on the toolbar. When the sync completes (as indicated by the cessation of the animation of the blue line connecting the cloud and the computer at the bottom of your Chirp window), exit Chirp.

Omit this step if you cannot start Chirp, or if instructed by Plum Canary to omit it.

2. Tell Chirp to perform a resync

  1. Open your Preferences pane.
    • Windows: Select File > Preferences
    • OS X: Select Chirp > Preferences
  2. Select the "Synchronization" entry in the left column
  3. Click the Button labeled "Resynchronize Database"
  4. Click "Apply"
  5. Click "OK"

3. Sync Chirp

Click the “sync” button on the toolbar.

4. Sync again.

Since some changes need to go through several steps to fully propagate them through your team, click the “sync” button on the toolbar again to perform a second sync.

You're done!

If Chirp has reset correctly, your copy of Chirp should have all relevant tasks. Please contact Plum Canary if you detect any missing or defective tasks.
